What is acne ?
A skin problem identified by red pimples on skin, neck, chest or back.
Acne can be of several types
Papules - Inflamed raw small pink lesions and are painful.Pustules - Pus filled white or yellow lesions.
Cysts - Pus filled, deep and painful lesions often leave scars after healing.
Mild to Moderate Acne Alerts
- Blackheads.
- Whiteheads.
- Small pimples.
Whiteheads
- Clogged pores, below skin surface.- Non inflamed bump visible on skin.
- Not painful and are more flesh colored
Blackheads
- Similar to whiteheads but are exposed to air.- Pores get blocked due to oxidation,
- Non inflamed.
Moderate to Severe Acne Alerts
- Papules.
- Pustules.
-Nodules and Cysts.
Papules
- Whiteheads or blackheads become inflamed results in Papules.- More likely appear in clusters.
- Tender raised painful bumps not filled with pus.
Pustules
- When papules get filled with pus results in hard and inflamed pustules.
Nodules and Cysts
- Severe form of acne.- Leave scars.
- Are painful, cause swelling, redness and irritation.
- Cysts are filled with pus while nodules leads to tissue destruction and are not pus filled.
Group of People Vulnerable to Acne ?
- People often aged between 12 and 25, old peoplemight get affected as well.
-8 in 10 teenagers likely face mild degree of acne.
-3 in 10 teenagers need severe acne treatment.
Causes of Acne ?
Hormonal Changes - Cause more sebum production.Blocked pores - Oxidation of pores with oil.
Women and Pregnancy - Some women have a burst of acne just before periods.During first three months of pregnancy acne may get worse.
